Get Ready With Me: Going Out or Travelling with My Period

You’ve planned the perfect day. Maybe it’s a swim with friends, a road trip, or just a long day out and about. You’re packing your bag, sorting your outfit — and then you realise… your period has also decided to come along.
Annoying? Yes.
A reason to cancel everything? Not even close.
Periods used to mean adjusting your plans or sitting things out. But not anymore. With a few simple swaps, your cycle doesn’t need to take over your day — whether you’re adventuring, relaxing, or hopping on a flight.
Here’s how I get ready with my period — not in spite of it.
Step 1: Know Your Flow
The first thing I always do is check in with my body. Am I on a light day or a heavier one? Do I need backup, or am I fine with just one product for the whole day?
Knowing what to expect means I can prepare without overpacking — or panicking later.
Step 2: Choose My Go-To Period Product
Depending on where I’m going, I’ll reach for:
• My menstrual cup — This is my ride-or-die for long days. It’s soft, flexible, and made from medical-grade silicone, so I can wear it for up to 8 hours comfortably. No strings, no leaks, no stress.
• A menstrual disc — Great for when I want a more low-profile option or if I’m heading out and want something I can wear without feeling anything. Also a game-changer for travel days.
• bohokiwi period swimwear — If there’s even the slightest chance I’ll be near water, I wear it. Pool, hot springs, lake day, or just lying in the sun — it’s leak-proof, comfy, and looks like regular swimwear. No one would ever know it’s period-friendly, and that’s exactly how I like it.
Step 3: Pack Light, But Smart
I keep it simple, but I always make sure I’ve got:
• My clean cup or disc (plus a small cloth bag to store it)
• A spare pair of swimmers (sometimes I wear one, pack another)
• A few wipes or a mini wet bag just in case
• Some snacks and water — energy dips are real
• A pair of comfy shorts or loose pants if I’m feeling bloated
If I know I’ll be out all day or heading into the evening, I might bring a pair of period undies too — I’ve been testing a few, and they’re honestly amazing for chill evenings or as overnight backup. (P.S. we’re working on our own… watch this space.)
Step 4: Stay Flexible
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that your period doesn’t have to be perfect to be manageable. You might feel amazing one day and a little tired the next — that’s okay. What matters is having what you need to feel supported, clean, and confident, wherever you are.
bohokiwi’s products are designed to move with you — whether you’re hitting the beach, heading to the airport, or just living your life. No leaks, no drama, no reason to sit anything out.
Your body works hard. Your period is part of that.
With the right gear, it doesn’t need to slow you down — and you definitely don’t need to plan your life around it.
Swim. Travel. Move. Relax.
Your period doesn’t get to decide what you can or can’t do.
